More Than Moms is a support group for working mothers in the Northwest Arkansas area. Join us for local meetups, playdates, mom’s nights out, dad’s nights out, mom’s lunches, overnight excursions, and various other activities.

Whether you work at home, outside the home, full-time or part-time, or are a student, you are welcome. Whether you are married or single, have multiple children, one child, or are expecting your first child, you are all welcome.

It takes a special kind of driven, passionate person to devote her life not only to her children and family, but also to a career, all the while trying to find the balance and time for all for her responsibilities. This group was created to get to know like-minded women who enjoy their lives outside of serving the all-important role of being a mother. There are multiple groups that support stay at home mothers, but this is the only group in the Northwest Arkansas area that was created to those of us moms who choose to lead a professional and domestic lifestyle.

Malco Theatres is happy to let KIDS HELP KIDS through our 2010 Kids Summer Film Fest.  In partnership with 66 Federal Credit Union, the festival has raised thousands of dollars for Arkansas Children’s Hospital!

Summer History Camp Slots Still Available
Openings are still available in the Shiloh Museum ’s “1800s History Day Camp” for children ages 6-9.  Two week-long sessions will be offered: June 21-25 and July 12-16, from 9:00 a.m. to noon each day. Campers will enjoy games, crafts, and food from the 1800s.  Each day will feature a different theme, including Native Americans, pioneers, the Civil War, railroads, and Victorian fun.

Cost for the camp is $45 for Shiloh Museum members and $50 for non-members. Space is limited, preregistration and payment is required. The Shiloh Museum is located at the corner of Johnson and Main in downtown Springdale . For more information, call 750-8165.

Meet a Firefighter Summer Saturday Program
The Shiloh Museum and the Springdale Fire Department will present an afternoon of activities for the family on Saturday, June 12, from 12:30-3:00 p.m. at the museum.  From 12:30 to 1:00 p.m., former chief Mickey Jackson and current chief Duane Atha will discuss “The Springdale Fire Department: Yesterday and Today.” From 1:00-3:00 p.m., a variety of activities will take place, including:

•    Visit with members of the Springdale Fire Department and see a modern fire engine

•    Tour the Fire Safety House

•    Meet “Old Betsy,” the department’s historic 1931 pumper truck

•    Kids can make a fire hat and an edible fire truck

•    The 1916 classic Charlie Chaplin film The Fireman will be shown throughout the afternoon

•    See Answering the Call, the museum’s exhibit on the history of the Springdale Fire Department

History of Public Access TV in Northwest Arkansas
“Public Access Television: The Quilt of Community Diversity,” a program by independent writer Richard Drake of Fayetteville will be presented Wednesday, June 16 at noon at the Shiloh Museum of Ozark History in Springdale . 

“I’ll tell the story of how public access has had an impact both on Fayetteville and on the citizens who have used it over the past 30 years, and also how a television station can be used to celebrate the rich complexity of life in the community,” said Drake.

Sacred Harp Singers

Heritage Trail Partners will present “Bullets, Ballads, and Bandages: Civilians and Soldiers in the Civil WarOzarks,” an afternoon of activities at Prairie Grove Battlefield Historic State Park , Saturday, June 26, from noon to 3:30 p.m. 

Independent researcher Steve Burgess will discuss the Battle of Cane Hill at noon. At 1:15 p.m., a concert of Civil War-era music will be performed by the Back Porch Players.  Living history professional Doug Kidd will present “The Life of a Civil War Surgeon” at 2:30 p.m.  Members of the Shiloh Museum of Ozark History’s living history group will be on hand throughout the afternoon portraying Ozark folks during the Civil War.  All activities are free.

Heritage Trail Partners is a non-profit organization dedicated to documenting and preserving the history of roads and trails in western Arkansas associated with the Trail of Tears (1837-1839), the Butterfield Stage (1858-1861), and Civil War troop movements (1861-1865).  “Our vision is to utilize historic roadways as a part of a regional network of bicycle and walking trails.  The Heritage Trail will link Northwest Arkansas cities in a unique way, connecting them through the historic events of the 1800s,” said John McLarty, president of Heritage Trail Partners.  He added, “We offer public programs such as “Bullets, Ballads, and Bandages” as a way to educate the public not only about local history, but about the Heritage Trail project.”

The mission of Let’s Bring Them Home is to provide safety education for children and adults, as well as services to families with missing loved ones.

In 2009, over 2,500 children and families enjoyed Family Field Day events.  This year, Family Field Day will present the talent of The Institute of Jugglology: Where the science of juggling meets the art of performance.

If you have you ever wondered what would happen if the laws of gravity no longer applied?  Come and watch a team of jugglologists attempt to discover the secret to anti-gravity, but hold on to your sets; we are not responsible for float-aways.

Family Field Day is a free event and features kid-friendly fun in a safe environment!   Events begin at 9:30 am with the Free2Walk 5k presented by the Not For Sale Campaign.   Worldwide: Operating in various countries, Not For Sale Campaign educates and mobilizes an abolitionist movement through open-source activism. Nationally, the Campaign identifies trafficking rings, collaborates with law enforcement and community groups to shut them down and provides aid for victims. Internationally, the campaign partners with poorly resourced abolitionist groups to enhance their capacity.

In Arkansas: Not For Sale Arkansas is a grassroots expression of the Not For Sale Campaign mission in our state. We are engaged in recruiting and motivating volunteers to work in Rescue and Restore Coalition member efforts, volunteer-initiated projects (open source activism) and in our own advocacy, detection and victim support initiatives.   Registration options for Free2Walk are:  Run, Walk, or Sleep in and get the shirt anyway.
