Crazy For Art

Students will smear, draw with sticks, tear cloth, paint around things, get messy, learn and have fun painting, collaging, printing and drawing.

Painting Up A Storm

Students will paint landscapes or still-lifes

depending on the weather. They’ll learn to make observations over and around things and think about what they draw.

Self Portrait

Students create unique works of art that express who they are through the techniques of drawing, painting and collage. Kis will use a variety of fun art-making materials and techniques, exploring and incorporating their reflection through the art-making process.

Drawing What Matters

Learn basic drawing skills. Develop confidence and accuracy in drawing. Art making will include discussion and practice of simple observation exercises helping students draw more precisely. Students will create a self portrait montage from objects of their own such as shoes, MP3 players, jewelry, etc.

Printed Art Books

Learn about and practice various print processes such as repeatable images, monoprints, rubbings and color enhancements. Students’ creations will be incorporated into a one-of-a-kind art book.

Camp Invention Program

The Springdale School District is pleased to host the Camp Invention Program, an exciting week-long summer day experience for children entering grades one through six at the Helen Tyson Middle School the week of June 16-20, 2008 from 9:00-3:30 with all new activities!

The program is designed to inspire creativity and inventive thinking through loads of hands-on activities and F-U-N! Children will participate in five inventive modules each day, including:

M.A.R.S. (Moving at Rocket Speed)™ module, where children become the first astronauts to explore the planet Mars

Art Park™ module, where children renovate a museum’s sculpture garden.

Saving Sludge City™ module, where children rebuild and clean a polluted city to make a more eco-friendly environment for it’s residents.

The Camp Invention Program integrates science, mathematics, history, and the arts in an exciting environment conducive to learning disguised as fun!

The Camp Invention Program will be hosted by Helen Tyson Middle School. Jenny Jones will direct the program, and local, certified teachers will lead five modules each day. Enthusiastic high school and college students will serve as counselors. The program features a low staff to child ratio, with one staff member for every eight children.

Fayetteville Parks & Recreation Outdoor Adventure Camp

2008 Be Active! Outdoor Adventure Camp Information

If you are interested in learning and participating in exciting Outdoor Activities, this is the perfect camp for you. Fayetteville Parks and Receation and Lewis and Clark partner to bring you this exciting summer camp experience. In the Outdoor Adventure Camp, participants learn to participate in extreme outdoor activities available in Fayetteville and Northwest Arkansas.

Activities planned include riding mountain bikes along Lake Fayetteville’s 5.5 mile nature trail, climbing Lewis and Clark’s 25 foot rock wall and maneuvering a kayak in Lake Fayetteville. Participants will also fish, hike, geocache, play disc golf and learn outdoor education lessons such as wilderness survival, animal tracking, shelter building and tree and plant identification.

At the conclusion of the week, campers will participate in a miniature Outdoor Adventure Race. In this final event, campers will utilize their newly learned skills to solve clues leading them to the finish line.

For the price of registration, each camper receives a T Shirt and a mountain bike helmet.

Camp Dates & Price

There are four, one week sessions for the Outdoor Adventure Camp. All camp sessions run from 9am - 12noon. Campers may be dropped off as early as 8:30am and picked up no later than 12:30pm. Space is limited to the first fifty (50) participants per camp:

Session 3 … July 7 - 11
Session 4 … July 14 - 18

Cost of the camp is $60 per week.

2008 Camp Information

Fayetteville Parks and Recreation is offering four (4), one week long Summer Camps. ALL CAMPS WILL BE FROM 9 AM - 12 PM. Each week, is themed after a activity. The goal of each week is to provide healthy, fun, and educational activities that will allow the campers to learn basic skills for the activity, and allow them to continue to progress once the camp has concluded. We strive to create an environment where your child has an enjoyable experience creating a life long participation in healthy activities. All children between the ages of five (must have completed kindergarten) and twelve are encouraged to attend regardless of experience and skill level.

Soccer Camp…June 16th-June 20th

This camp will be an excellent way for children to learn or improve their soccer skills. Each morning participants will work on skills such as shooting, dribbling and passing, while playing various games designed to have fun and improve foot-eye coordination. All participants will receive a t-shirt and soccer ball, which they will need to bring with them each day of the camp.

Tennis Camp … June 23rd - June 27th

Fayetteville Parks & Recreation and the United State Tennis Association provides fundamental instruction including forehand, backhand, volley, serves, footwork, and rules of the game. Campers are required to bring their own racket, although a limited number of rackets are available for those who need one. Please contact Parks and Recreation (444.3471) to reserve a racket. Campers will receive a camp T Shirt and wristband.

Drama Camp … July 7th - 11th

Drama Camp introduces campers to the theater with fundamental acting techniques and methods. With the help of Arts Live Theater instructors, campers will learn foundational acting techniques and theater terminology, while exploring character creation through fun and games. The camp will culminate with on Friday with a showcase performance. Campers will receive a Camp T Shirt and Water Bottle.

Swimming / Fitness Camp … July 14th - July 18th

Our Swimming/Fitness Camp teaches campers fitness can be fun! Throughout the week, campers will learn how to improve their fitness levels by participating in various games/activities. The week will culminate in The Extreme Challenge (a youth triathlon) in and around Wilson Park on Friday, July 18th. Campers will need to bring a towel and swimming suit. Shoes must be worn all week (Sandals are not allowed). Each camper will receive a T Shirt and a Sack Pack.
