Volunteer Orientation
The Shiloh Museum will hold a volunteer orientation session on Monday, January 11 from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. for people interested in helping out as front desk greeters, school tour guides, or collections assistants. Open House
The Shiloh Museum ’s second annual “Cabin Fever Reliever,” a celebration of the New Year, will take placeSaturday, January 16 at the museum. The schedule is as follows:
10 am Scenes from The Taming of the Shrew by the George Elementary School Shakespeare Troupe, under the direction of Dianne Kellogg
10:30 am Stories by Tellers of Tales
10:45 am Screening of Sacred Harp Singing in Northwest Arkansas, a short documentary produced by the Shiloh Museum and the Northwest Arkansas Sacred Harp Singers, with funding from the Arkansas Humanities Council
11 am More scenes from The Taming of the Shrew by the Shaw Elementary School Shakespeare Troupe, under the direction of Lu Ann Little

12:30-2:45 pm History Right Under Your Feet: Traveling the Heritage Trail in Northwest Arkansas
Representatives from Heritage Trail Partners will discuss some lesser-known historic sites related to the Trail of Tears, Butterfield Stagecoach route, and Civil War troop movements in Washington and Benton counties.
12:30-1:15 pm The Trail of Tears by John McLarty, president of the Arkansas Chapter of the Trail of Tears Association. McLarty’s session will include a new documentary short film on the Trail of Tears produced by the National Park Service.
1:15-2:00 pm The Butterfield Stagecoach Route by Kirby Sanders, author of Driver’s Guide to the Butterfield Overland Mail Route in Missouri , Arkansas , and Oklahoma .
2:00-2:45 pm Civil War Troop Movements by Alan Thompson, museum registrar at Prairie Grove Battlefield Historic State Park .
Kids of all ages can visit the museum’s General Store and make a 2010 Topper hat, and free refreshments will be served throughout the day. The Shiloh Museum is located at the corner of Johnson and Main in downtown Springdale . For more information, call 750-8165.
Train Wrecks Discussed
Mike Sypult of the Boston Mountain Chapter of the National Railway Historical Society will present “Derailed! Getting Off Track in Northwest Arkansas,” a look at local train wrecks and rail accidents through the years,Wednesday, January 20, at noon at the Shiloh Museum . The program is presented in conjunction with the museum’s current photo exhibit, Disaster!, which features images of crashes and catastrophes. Writing Group to Meet
LifeWriters, a group for people interested in writing the stories of their own lives or those of family and friends, will meet Monday, January 4 and Monday, January 18 at 10:00 a.m. at the Shiloh Museum of Ozark History. Photo Identification Group
The Shiloh Museum ’s Photo Identification Group will meet Saturday, January 9 from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the museum to continue identifying people, places, and events in Northwest Arkansas photos taken over the last 40 years.
