Tricycle Theatre for Youth Announces Winter Drama Class Schedule

Tricycle Theatre for Youth (The Trike), a professional theatre company for young people and families, is announcing its Spring-Term Trike Academy classes for young persons 4 years through 18!  This is the final 6-week skill-based class series of the school year. It will begin Monday, April 6, 2009. 

 

Each Trike Academy class is taught by trained theatre professionals and teaching artist specialists, providing a unique learning environment that is informed by educational best practices and integrates Arkansas literacy/reading state standards into The Trike Academy’s drama and creative play curricula.  Offerings include Saturday and after-school classes.

 

“We love the supportive, risk-taking community that The Trike teachers create in their classroom. The acting skills our daughter is learning are strengthening valuable life skills. Her confidence level has grown tremendously this year.” Said a parent of a Trike student. 

 

In the Dramatic Play classes, young people focus on self-confidence, personal expression, disciplined effort and group cooperation.  Students ages 4 years – Pre-K will creatively play in well known stories during: Story Drama-Dr. Seuss books,( Saturdays 9:00-9:50am) and Story Drama –Explorers, (Tuesdays 3:30-4:20pm). Kindergarten through 2nd grade students will learn new acting techniques through Acting with Miss Nelson is Missing (Mondays 3:30-4:20pm & Saturdays 10:00-10:50am).

 

The Trike’s Conservatory students are taught by theatre professionals and build top-level skills needed to audition for their school plays and Trike Playhouse productions, strengthen core-acting skills and prepare for university level courses. Winter-Term classes include: 3rd-4th grade Acting: Midsummer Night’s Dream (Tuesdays 4:30-5:50pm) & Acting with The Boxcar Children (Saturdays 11:00am-12:20pm), 5th-6th grade Acting: Midsummer Night’s Dream (Mondays 4:30-5:50pm) & Acting with The Lion, The Witch & The Wardrobe (Saturdays 1:00-2:20pm), 7th-9th grade Acting: Midsummer Night’s Dream (Tuesdays 6:00-7:20pm) & Acting with The Lion, The Witch & The Wardrobe (Saturdays 2:30-3:50pm), and 10th -12th grade Acting: Midsummer Night’s Dram (Mondays 6:00-7:20pm).

Tricycle Theatre for Youth Announces Spring Break Camp

Tricycle Theatre for Youth (The Trike), a professional theatre company for young people and families, is gearing up for hilarious Spring Break!

Students in grades 3rd-8th will have the opportunity to Make Them Laugh!  This Comedy Improv Performance camp lasts one week, March 23- March 27, from 8:30am-3:00pm at Tricycle Theatre for Youth (120 S. Main St. Bentonville). 

 

Students acting in Trike’s Make Them Laugh! performance camp will have audiences rolling on the floor through their comedic scenes, physical comedy routines and musical theatre numbers. The camp is taught by Virginia Scheuer, a trained theatre professional who studied physical comedy in Italy and earned her MFA in Acting from University of Arkansas.  Virginia was last seen in Theatresquared’s fall comedy Moonlight and Magnolias.  All of Trike’s classes and camps are informed by educational best practices and integrate Arkansas literacy/reading state standards into its curricula.  Parents and friends will be invited to watch the students’ final performance on the last day of camp. Cost is $200 ($190 for Trikesters).

Jones Center Spring Break FUN 2009

Join the Jones Center: The ONE center for Spring Break Fun, March 24th-27th.  From Disney Cruise Line talent acts like Illusionist Freddie Fusion, Hypnotist Dale K and professional Juggler and Comedian Jeff Civillico, to PBS characters there is some for everyone!

Tuesday: AETN Day, Curious George, Maya & Miquel, Clifford the Big Red Dog and World Girl

Wednesday: Gym Day: Sumo Suits, Jacobs Ladder, Parachute Games, Roller Racers, Natural Speed Pitch with an appearance from Strike

Thursday: Laser Tag, Amazing Race, Princess and Pirate Adventure

Friday: Mad Science Day: Expos, Interactive Shows and 40/29 Super Doppler Storm Team

Special Pre-Spring Break Performance from Impulse on Thursday, March 19th at 2p & 6p  “Impulse is one of the country’s premier a cappella groups.  Their show is a mind-blowing kaleidoscope of music that crosses all genres and styles featuring stunning solos and slamming beats!”

Tricycle Theatre for Youth Provides a Sneek Peek into Artistic Season

During the monthly First Friday events in downtown Bentonville, Tricycle Theatre for Youth (The Trike) will be hosting staged readings highlighting future artistic season offerings.  With script in hand, these pay-what-you-can evenings of live theatre will be performed by professional actors alongside Trike Academy students.

 

The first Sneek Peek program will be held on March 6th during the First Friday: Midway to St. Patrick’s Day event. Starting at 7:00 pm, the group will read from In the Garden of the Selfish Giant, an award winning original play by Sandra Asher adapted from the short story by Irish author and playwright Oscar Wilde.

 

The play is about the eleven-year-old Maggie and her mother who come “home” to be with Maggie’s dying grandmother. Maggie resents having to cancel her summer plans and her bad mood only gets worse when she meets Brianna, the 9-year old neighbor who hates unhappy endings.

 

Performers include Cassie Self, Jodi Beznoska, and young actresses Kirsty Sinclaire and Rhianna Lightle.

Angry Kids, Frustrated Parents

This workshop will help you understand what causes your anger and the many problems that can result if you are unable to control your anger.  We will discuss ways to help you manage and express healthy responses to your anger.  Managing your anger appropriately is an important skill that involves identifying what triggers your anger and learning techniques to help you calm down.  We will share some healthy ways for you to express your anger without losing control.
