It seems safe, but is it?

Plastic Outlet Covers

Do you use the ever popular cheap plastic outlet covers to help prevent your child from getting electrocuted? Did you know that these small plastic plug-in models can pose a deadly choking hazard? Even if the caps seem to fit snugly, they tend to loosen with use — and a toddler could remove one and put it in her mouth. My son never actually put one in his mouth, but he did learn how to wiggle them out, posing both an electrical and choking hazard. Scary!

Instead get covers that screw into the wall and slide shut when outlets aren’t in use, or block unused outlets with furniture. These are more expensive and harder to find, but worth it.

Email me if you have any tips on safety that seems safe, but really isn’t.
